Rishi Yuga(Ancient Indian) Education

Rishi Yuga(Ancient Indian) Education

Rishi yuga education refers to the education of vedic period. Guru and Gurukulams were the center of this system. All knowledge seeking students used to stay in the Gurukulam premises. They impart education from Guru in all sorts of knowledge starting with skills related to livelihood to great philosophical knowledge.

Krishna and Sudhama who were studied under the guidance of Sage Sandeepani in Sandeepani Ashrama are the one of the greatest examples of this educational system. Equality among the pupils were the highlights of the system. Every student is taught on multiple subjects based on their intelligence level and abilities.

Gurukulams under Vihhnugupta VidyaPeetham have similar aspirations to provide greatest Indian knowledge to the students. As part of this multiple subjects have been offered to the students across different age groups. The teaching methodology of all these subjects are enriched by day today activities so that it is highly balanced with the contemporary regular studies prescribed by the authorities.

The subjects taught are distributed across multiple indian knowledge system categories. Veda and vedangas are introduced to the students along with the necessary knowledge of Sanskrit. Stories of great Indian legends from Ramayana, Mahabharata, Purana are explained either orally or through different acts of song and dance.all these great people were great examples of living to duty “Dharma”.

Sadachara:Right conduct (Dharmashastra simplified)

Sadaachaara – Sat –Aachaara – Righteousness

The most important and essential thing in the Vishnugupta VishwaVidyapeetham curriculum is “righteousness.”. ‘Aachara’ is considered as practice of only ‘madi-mailige (non-touchability)’. But it has a deeper and broader meaning. What is the basic thing for the world of ‘sat’, what is true, what are all the actions that have to be done, all are collectively called “Sadvichaara (Righteousness)”. The substance called ‘Sat’ is beyond time (Kalathetha) and beyond space (Deshathetha). That is, Parabrahma. This same has expanded to become a wider world. When the seed is enlarged, the ‘Dharma’ of the seed appears in all subsequent stages, so that everything in the world is from the ‘Dharma’ of the Parabrahman. Upanishad says that the world is his habitat. It is the duty of every human being to resort to this world and to the Lord of the world.  The available human life has to realized and fulfilled. This is the result of the search of the ultimate truth of our Indian Arya maharshi. This is not superstition. Not a celebration of fools. A celebration of science.

Every substance in this creation wants to be in its purest form. They benefit only when the soil, water, and air are all clean. Cleaned if they are contaminated. Plant-tree, animal-bird, river-mountain are naturally pure. They must be clean at all times. Purified when impure. Purity, therefore, is its nature. Impurity is its unnatural nature. This process is not out of place for man, who is a part of creation. The impurities that occur from time to time must be removed. It should not be tampered with. We need righteousness to keep the format intact.

Humans are praised as the most pure, the greatest of all time. This is the reason why- “this birth is where one might be closest to the god”. Only then birth is meaningful. This requires the cleansing of our body, mind, intellect and everything. We call the overall process of this purity as ‘Sadachara’.

Biography of legends from Krita Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, Kali Yuga (Based on Ramayana , Mahabharata, Purana, History, Recent times) are taught.

Cooking- Paakashatra

The proverb that we all know is that one who knows how to eat a meal will not have disease.. Our wrong diet and vacation is the cause of our illness. We know the meaning of the above quote but we have fallen short of applying it properly in our lives.

Our eating habits and cooking habits have changed. Change is the law of the world, but we need to prepare food by understanding how it can supplement our body.

Food is not just a kitchen with food. The growing space, the grower’s mood, the chef’s mood all affect us. So one needs to take the food with the understanding of all of them.

Against this backdrop, the culinary department has the following objectives.

  •  Efficiently knowing food systems in our heritage, in the context of ancient and modern science.
  •  Knowing the science behind each recipe and ingredients used in it.
  •  Understanding the contents and temperaments that are involved in the process of eating and digesting the food which has come from the grower grower.
  •  Recognize the small changes in the body and change the diet accordingly.

For these purposes, the children of Gurukul will be introduced to culinary arts. The science behind traditional kitchens will be taught by teaching children how to cook themselves.
